R1 Tourney 02 Preview

The R1 Tourney returns with a $10,000 prize pool. The group stage will start tomorrow, and the Grand Finals will kick off on Sunday.

The R1 Tourney 02 will take place this week with 6 teams competing for the $10,000 prize pool. This time the event will only have EU teams participating; none of the NA teams were invited or tried to make it through the qualifiers.

Buff Enjoyer, Abrahams, Leviathan and Oblivion were the invited teams. Sneaky Team and Rusya 555 survived through the open qualifiers; they had a long marathon day and outlasted all of them. A highlight goes to the Sneaky Team, who won the last game with only 5 players since reyache had a power outage.

Format

The tournament will have a group stage, where all teams will play a single round-robin of six teams, and all matches will be best of 3. The top 4 teams advance to the playoffs, and the bottom two are eliminated.

The playoffs will be a double elimination bracket; all matches are bo3, and the Grand Finals are bo5.

Keep an Eye

This will be the debut of ABL for Leviathan, since he is currently banned from DLNS events due to racist conduct. Leviathan is going through a really shaky time, where they seem unable to reach a stable roster, having made three changes in the last 2 weeks. It’s very unclear how they will perform and how they will react if the results don’t go their way.

Buff Enjoyers and Abrahams are the best teams in the EU at the moment. They have long-term rosters and have found success with them. A lot of expectations are placed on them, but they usually deliver.

Sneaky Team was born with Oses as their leader. They are a new team but have a very synergistic duo in Oses and reyache, who played together in Leviathan. Since the duo were victims of Leviathan's instability, it seems like payback time for them.
