Melee Creeps beat FPS Lounge (who had two subs tonight) to get to the finals of what should have been an extremely competitive night. Unfortunately for Floormen, Melee Creeps managed to cook up a new golden strategy for tonight.

A Scrambled Game

I could go into the draft for this game, but it didn't matter. The game started off odd once we all realized that Melee Creeps bought Golden Eggs as the first item across all of their heroes. Then the anomalies kept stacking up, with Melee Creeps feeding kills intentionally... If you look at the scoreboard you'll notice something very quick. Floormen had double the kills of Melee Creeps when the game ended.

So what happened?

Melee Creeps gave up the first urn in favor of the hitting a comeback urn at the 15 minute mark, all the while funneling souls to dew's Celeste to keep him fed. You only need to be down 10% of the enemy team's total souls for an urn to be in your favor when it spawns. With these new changes that comes with a hefty, team wide 35% bullet and spirit resist if you are holding the urn as a favored team.

That's where the strategy came in.

Melee Creeps fed until the 15 minute mark to secure the comeback urn on their side, popped their Golden Goose Eggs that gave them 181 permanent Golden Statue buffs, and closed the soul deficient immediately - putting them back in line with Floormen's soul count, and with a 35% resist totem to boot. If you do the math, Spirit and Bullet Resilience give 30% resist, and cost 3,200 souls each. So each member of Melee Creeps was getting over 6,400 souls worth of resist, totaling almost 40,000 souls across the entire team. This is a very significant buff that would make Melee Creeps almost unkillable.

Golden Statue buffs after MLC cashed in their Golden Eggs.

They carried the urn around to kill walkers, mid boss, and more, essentially babying the urn and making sure to keep it in their favor for the resist buffs. They would carefully reset it when convenient so the ticking damage from holding it would go back to zero.

This managed to crack Floormen's mental, not only deciding to forfeit the game, but the rest of the series which defaulted to Melee Creeps winning tonight.

After tonight, this strategy will be banned in Night Shift events going forward, so we should not have to worry about seeing this in this weekend's Night Shift Open where there is $12k USD on the line.
